- About This A Way Back Home Walkthrough
This Rick and Morty: A Way Back Home Walkthrough organizes the available progression into separate character routes for Beth, Summer, Jessica and Tricia.
The game does not treat every storyline as completely independent. Several routes share the same early-game prerequisites, and progressing one character can unlock the next objective for another. Because of this, following the correct event order is much more reliable than repeatedly checking every location.
If you need the game itself, visit the Rick and Morty: A Way Back Home game page on GameCax.

How Progression Works
A Way Back Home uses interconnected character progression. A useful way to think about it is:
Early Story Event → Required Character → Location → New Mission → Another Character → Next Route Event
Summer, Jessica and Tricia in particular share several early events. If one of those routes appears stuck, continue the related Tricia or Summer mission before checking the character again.
Recommended Starting Order
For a new playthrough, a practical starting order is:
- Complete the opening story events.
- Get the phone and related navigation app.
- Begin Beth’s early home events.
- Continue the opening Tricia school sequence.
- Use Summer’s route to unlock the phone-related investigation.
- Continue Jessica and Tricia as their missions split into separate branches.
Beth Route Walkthrough
Beth has the most self-contained route of the four supplied walkthroughs and primarily progresses through the house.
Step 1 – Talk to Beth in the Kitchen
After talking with Summer and receiving your phone, your first Beth objective is in the kitchen.
- Go to the kitchen.
- Talk to Beth.
- Talk to her again after the initial Beth and Jerry conversation.
- Use the additional questions that become available.
Step 2 – Living Room Event
After the conversation, the time advances to night.
- Go to the living room.
- Find Beth there.
- Accept the option to spend time together watching a movie.
Step 3 – Bathroom Event
On the following night, check the bathroom for the next Beth progression event.
Step 4 – Unlock the Second Movie Sequence
Continue the main story until you have received the curse and app from El Diablo at the mall and Morticia/Rick have appeared during the nighttime sequence.
Return to the living room and talk to Beth again.
This time you will need wine before the event can continue.
Step 5 – Get Money From Rick
- Go to the garage.
- Talk to Rick.
- Get enough money to purchase the wine.
- Go to the mall.
- Buy the wine.
Step 6 – Beth’s Bedroom
After buying the wine, return home at midnight.
Find Beth in her bedroom and continue the movie sequence.
Step 7 – Continue the Night Events
The Beth route then progresses through several consecutive nighttime events.
- On the following night, find Beth in the kitchen.
- Start the next movie event.
- Go to bed afterward to trigger the following progression.
- On the next midnight visit, return to Beth’s bedroom.
- Continue the available interaction.
- When the sequence finishes, go to bed early.
- Repeat the early-bed progression on the following night when required.
Step 8 – Talk About the Previous Night
After completing the bedroom progression, find Beth in the living room at night and talk to her about the previous event.
Go to bed early again afterward.
Step 9 – Make Breakfast for Beth
The next major objective requires money.
- Get approximately $80 from Rick.
- Use it to complete the breakfast objective for Beth.
Beth Bonus Event – Morning Bathroom
A bonus Beth event can appear if you use the bathroom in the morning while she is there.
Beth Bonus Event – Art Class
- Talk to Beth in the morning, either in her bedroom or the kitchen.
- Ask where she is going.
- On the following morning, talk to her about Art Class again.
- After completing that event, find Beth again.
- Talk to her about the photos.

Step 6 – Visit Morticia
After the church progression, visit Morticia.
This unlocks the next part of the route and allows you to start messaging Tricia.

This triggers the Pickle Morty progression.
Step 9 – Ask Tricia for Help With Jessica
On the next day:
- Find Tricia.
- Ask for help getting closer to Jessica.
- Continue the resulting objective.
Step 10 – Rick’s Confidence Event

Complete Rick’s related garage sequence before returning to Tricia’s route.
Step 11 – Mall Item
The next objective requires another item:
- Go to the mall.
- Purchase the item requested by the mission.
- Return to school.
- Give the item to Tricia.
This triggers the next Tricia progression event.
Shared Summer, Jessica and Tricia Prerequisites
These three routes overlap heavily during the early game.
A simplified dependency path is:
Opening Tricia Event → Find Summer → School Bathroom → Summer Conversation → Ask About Jessica → Summer Phone → Tricia School Progress → Church → Morticia → Separate Character Routes
If Jessica or Summer appears to have no new interaction, verify that you have progressed Tricia far enough first.
Important Locations
| Location | Main Route Use |
|---|---|
| Kitchen | Beth early progression |
| Living Room | Beth movie and conversation events |
| Beth’s Bedroom | Later Beth night progression |
| Summer’s Room | Summer and Jessica prerequisite progression |
| School Bathroom | Early Tricia route |
| School / Classroom | Tricia and Jessica progression |
| Church | Mid-route Tricia prerequisite events |
| Garage | Rick money and progression events |
| Mall | Route-specific purchases |
| Jessica’s House | Jessica and Pickle Morty progression |
Important Purchases
Several character routes require purchases before the next event can trigger.
- Wine – Beth route.
- Summer route item – purchased from the mall after getting money from Rick.
- Emoji Pack – required during Tricia’s messaging sequence.
- Tricia mission item – purchased at the mall during later Tricia progression.
What to Do If a Route Is Stuck
If an expected event does not appear, check these conditions:
- Previous event: Make sure the earlier character event actually finished.
- Time: Several Beth and Summer events specifically require night or midnight.
- Related route: Summer and Jessica frequently depend on Tricia progression.
- Phone: Check whether a new message or app objective is available.
- Money: Some missions cannot continue until you buy the required item.
- Rick: Talk to Rick when a mission requires money or another progression trigger.
- Location: Revisit school, church, garage, mall or the relevant house after completing the prerequisite.
Best Route Order
There is no requirement to finish every character completely before starting another, but the supplied walkthroughs suggest this practical progression:
Beth Early Events → Tricia Opening → Summer → Jessica Investigation → Tricia Church/Morticia Progression → Jessica Route → Continue Summer → Continue Beth
This works because Beth is comparatively independent, while the other three character routes share more prerequisite events.
Walkthrough Compatibility
Source Coverage: This walkthrough is based on the supplied Beth Route Patch 2.2 Updated and Summer, Jessica and Tricia Route Patch 2.1 documents.
If you are playing a substantially newer game release, later character events or changed progression requirements may not be represented by these documents.
Use the route sections above for the content covered by those walkthrough sources and treat later undocumented progression separately.
About This A Way Back Home Walkthrough
This GameCax guide reorganizes four separate character walkthrough documents into a single route-based guide. Shared prerequisites are grouped together so you can understand why Summer, Jessica and Tricia may temporarily stop progressing while another route still has an unfinished objective.
